  The Adventure of Camping

(Photos General) Camp_Zip.jpg

No envying now, well just a little perhaps...  Your kids will have a wonderful camp experience and you have the joy of giving!

Whether in the back yard, an overnight camp or day camp, camping is a safe adventure we can give our children.

When we look at all the wonderful camps and summer classes we think fondly of the summers of our youth and just a little wistfully wish we were kids once more. It's  time to start filling out those registration forms and signing up for swim lessons.

Camp is about experiencing something new, creating memories and making new friends. Most day camps are offered on a weekly basis and some offer a daily rate. Many offer scholarships. Children as young as 3 can enjoy half day and full day programs and teens can find day, overnight camps, counselor in training (CIT) programs.

If you know of a camp we have missed, let us know! Click on the camp ads below to reach their websites and you will be delighted with the quality programs available.

Have fun planning a great summer! Parmalee

  Enrichment Close to the Heartbeat

(AA Camp 2015) BillTrimpi.jpgHi-- I am owner of Santa Cruz Soccer Camp which has been kicking soccer balls and visiting the elf castle deep in the woods of Delaveaga Park for 31 years. I also work as a special guest teacher at Alianza Charter School and Fitness for Life, an after school program in Watsonville.

I have been aware over past years and exponentially this year a need for more enrichment for our youth in schools and programs. Children are natural barometers in feeling or experiencing the pressure build up. Let's open our eyes wider to this phenomena and provide the optimal environment for fun engaging activity for kids to express and taste more of who and what they are. Parents, coaches, administrators, and teachers are experiencing this explosion of energy in our youth. There is more behavioral problems and classroom unrest.

(AA Camp 2015) SCSoccerKidHug.jpgLet's step back for a moment, breathe, allow this feeling of now to be. Okay what to do about the situation at hand? Have kids receive more of what we just did together---stop, take a breath, get present, perhaps have a little fun, and let go of stress that has been building. We all know about the effects of stress, now is the time to maximize our effort to bring balance to our youth which is obviously not meeting a portion of the needs for the development of the whole child.

Santa Cruz Soccer Camp from my perception is riding the wave of the new paradigm. We are known for making soccer fun. Kids learn more deeply when they resonate with what they are doing. Our coaches are in touch with this truth---- what resonates works, and what doesn't resonate or feel good is not it. We are fortunate to not have a board of whatever telling us what and how we educate. Being teachers in Santa Cruz County schools, we stay close to (AA Camp 2015) SCSoccerCoaches.jpgthe heart beat and are informed to what our kids are needing, then we implement the antidote.

In closing, my main message is of play and joy! Bring more creativity, and fun games into the classroom subject matter, and if that is not possible let the kids have the energy release through games and play. When we empty the cup it can then be filled again. For sure you can bet on it, youth more then ever want connection and that means expanding their education to include more enriching activity which inspires and nourishes.

Annual Passes Now Available at ParkStore Online!

(ABC_Feb 2015) Park_golden_poppy_2015.jpgAnnual park passes are now available in the ParkStore Online! By purchasing your annual passes through Friends of Santa Cruz Parks, a substantial part of the proceeds stay local to support our Santa Cruz County State Parks and Beaches.

There are two passes available: The popular "Golden Poppy" Annual Pass returns at $125, but this year with an expanded range similar to the previous year's Commemorative 150th Anniversary Pass including many of the premiere "destination" parks in the redwood region, and most of the state reservoirs. Parks like Julia Pfeiffer Burns and Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park on the Monterey coast are included along with coastal units in San Luis Obispo and the Channel Coast area.

The "California Explorer" Annual Pass at $195 offers the most value including the popular Southern California beaches along the Orange, Los Angeles and San Diego Coasts like Huntington Beach, Leo Carrillo and Carlsbad State Beaches. This pass is also honored at most parks throughout the state that are operated by California State Parks and charge a vehicle day use fee.

Purchasing your pass through our website benefits Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks!
