  Look at these Wonderful Camps!

(A Camps 2016) CampGuideWidgetwithArrow.jpgThe May Camp Guide is out and it's full of wonderful camps led by professionals dedicated to providing our children with unique opportunities.  Please click on links that intrigue you.  There is truly a camp for everyone's interests and budgets.  Talk to camp directors.  They welcome your questions!

Steve challenges us to look at our own agendas to see if they are causing problems in our families.  Ami offers us a way to slow down and enjoy the moment.  Good food for thought and practice!  From Cornell University comes an article on feathered dinosaurs to share with your young dinosaur fans.  By the time you read this newsletter you may have biked to school or work, but there's still time to attend the Friday Bike Party!

(A Buttons) Button_Weekend.jpgPlease recommend our newsletter to new friends so they won't miss a few tidbits of wisdom from our author contributors, and as always our many fun events! We cannot fit them all into this newsletter.  There are more on the online calendar.

Have a great weekend and many happy moments! Parmalee

Is the World Ready to See Dinosaurs as They Really Were?

(A May 2016) DinosaurswithFeathers.jpgHollywood may not realize it yet, but the science is clear: many, many dinosaurs had feathers, including the velociraptors made famous by Jurassic Park and probably even T. rex itself. Evidence from exquisitely preserved Chinese fossils has been accumulating since the 1980s. Lately, a group of visionary artists has been having fun portraying the new reality-even if the mainstream isn't quite ready to accept it yet.   Read more>>>>

  Ami: Everyday Satsang

(AA Mar 16) AmiChen_Outdoors.jpgSatsang is a Sanskrit word meaning "association with Truth," or with "the Self." In Hindu, Buddhist and other Eastern religious-and spiritual-worlds, this is a very common word that usually means: people coming together to listen to, to be with a spiritual teacher, and with each other, to "attend Satsang."

But to dive deeper into the word, and its meaning, is to see that satsang can happen anywhere, at any moment. Seeing some truth of life, whether a relative truth, related to our own families or lives, or an absolute or universal truth, this capacity to feel truth, to know truth, is perhaps the most important "resource" we can call into lives-for our families, with our loved ones, for our work, for everything.

"There is a source of insight inside of each of us, and inside of each child, that, when tapped, reveals truth that is just right for us, just right for our families and lives."

I was feeling stressed today, and running around the house sort of getting nothing done, but feeling like a lot had to be done! The kids were off school for a mid-week holiday, which, as a working mom, tends to leave me in the lurch-with stuff on my calendar (this article to write!), and a house full of my kids, and their friends needing to be fed and tended to.

My oldest daughter stopped me, looked me in the eye and said, "Mom, breathe!" She said it with the conviction of her own inner "truth." Obviously, I was losing it a little. And then I looked into her eyes and smiled. I smiled because she was right. I smiled at her growing maturity and wisdom. And I breathed.

In that moment, association with Truth, satsang, meant...>>>>>>>>

  Steve: Surrender Your Agenda

(A May 2016) SteveSpitalny3.jpgYour agenda can be an obstacle to connection and a harmonious life. Learning to surrender your agenda leads to more presence and acceptance. Often adults have plans and expectations about the way they want things to be. There can be an attachment to particular outcomes. When what they want doesn't happen, old reaction patterns arise and get in the way of connection. Your agenda, your expectations and your attachment to the way you think things should be is a major cause of stress and conflict!

As I have spoken about so many times on this page, our reaction patterns are old strategies we developed when we ourselves were young children to try to get our own needs met, and to attempt to deal with stress.

Warning: We are now entering into the dangerous territory of "should.'

Many adults feel more safe when they have some sense of control over their environment. That includes being able to expect what is going to happen, and how others "ought" to act.

When our young children don't do as they should, our agenda is compromised. When young children do what they shouldn't we lose the feeling of safety we get by the attempt to control our environment and the people around us.  Read the rest>>>>>
