  Gardening and Art Go Together

(A June) Dad_withBoys.jpg

Happy Fathers Day to this wonderful Santa Cruz Dad and to all Dads.  I'm in awe of your fine work in nurturing and mentoring tomorrow's citizens.

We suggest these fun weekend events: Tanniversary, Greenhouse Tour, Garden Faire, and Ebb and Flow River Revelry.  Gardening and Art...they go together so well!  Introduce them to the children early.  Details are all in the calendar.

How many times do we set goals and then have to adjust them!?  Suki  tackles not only the challenge of setting goals but shares with us her ingredients for making them happen.

The Great American Backyard Campout is coming soon, but WOLF offers two great camping weekends for families.  It's nearby, fun, has activities for all ages and is a great way to meet new friends and test camping out!

(A Buttons) Button_Weekend.jpgPlease recommend our newsletter to new friends so they won't miss a few tidbits of wisdom from our author contributors, and as always our many fun events! We cannot fit them all into this newsletter.  There are more on the online calendar.

Have a beautiful weekend with the family! Parmalee

  Suki Resets

(A June) SukiSingerJune.jpg"...I'm not going to psychoanalyze myself (fear of failure? low self-esteem? the alignment of the planets?), but I have noticed a change since I've been forced to look more carefully at how I'm raising my children. I've started to look at the things I'm doing with a little more of a critical eye. It was a huge step for me just to go through a series of simple questions:

  • Is this activity fulfilling for me?
  • Is it taking up time that I should be using for something else?
  • Is it leading me in any particular direction, or am I just spinning my wheels?
  • Do I have any particular goal here?

Thinking like this got me to making a few changes in my life..."  Read the entire introspection>>>>>

  Happy Birthday to The Tannery

(A June) TaniversaryInvite.jpgThe Tannery Arts Center will mark its birthday Saturday, June 18, 2016, with the annual Tanniversary celebration.

The day of revelry includes a full afternoon and evening celebrating creativity with art experiences, food and free performances at the Tannery Arts Center Campus. It also coincides with the Ebb & Flow community event on the San Lorenzo River from 12-2:30 p.m. and the grand reopening of Tannery World Dance & Cultural Center in the evening.

Tanniversary activities will include:

  • Live performances scattered throughout the campus from 4-6 p.m. showcasing the great talent in the community.
  • A scavenger hunt for kids led by Camp Tannery Arts from 3-7 p.m.
  • Pop up art vendors from the Tannery Lofts.
  • Food trucks throughout the afternoon and evening.
  • Studios will be open 3-8 p.m.
  • An artist reception at 6 p.m. for "Rabbits That Don't Fit In,"
  • The Arts Council's "All Hands on Deck" raffle at 7 p.m.

Tannery artist Geoffrey Nelson recreates the "Guardians of the River", one of which was destroyed just before Ebb & Flow 2015. He invites the public to pose in a Photo Booth under the Water Street Bridge with the illuminated figures during Ebb & Flow, 12-2:30 p.m. The figures will be on display Radius Gallery from 4-9 p.m.

Ebb & Flow

Join us for Ebb & Flow on June 18th! This year's Ebb & Flow public art project is being designed and led by local artist Heidi Cramer, who is creating her piece as part of her summer residency in the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History's Art Works program.

"This will be a collaborative sculpture which aims specifically at the landscape, local flora and fauna, and the history of the river," says Cramer. "This temporary sculptural event will bring the community together and be an opportunity to engage visitors young and old to create a work of art about the river environment, within the river environment."

Community members are invited to join Heidi at the MAH throughout June to learn about her work and help create the Ebb & Flow art piece. She will be there Monday through Thursday 12-4 PM, and Fridays from 5-9 PM.

crane

June 18th will be a full day of river revelry and celebration!
